Counselling for adults and young people
Services
Teenagers and young People
Working with young people is something that I feel passionately about. I worked in education for 15 years and have three children of my own. Young people need to feel validated and heard, and sometimes this might mean that they need extra support for their emotional wellbeing. There may be times when a parent, teacher or friend just isn’t the right person to provide this. I am able to click with young people; I enjoy hearing what they have to say. I enjoy talking with them, and using humour where appropriate in sessions.
The most important part is supporting them to explore their own potential whilst building self-esteem, lowering anxiety, and developing a strong sense of self. I also offer creative approaches. Sometimes, if a young person struggles to articulate themselves verbally it can feel safer to explore and express their feelings and thoughts in a creative way.
From a parent’s perspective, I understand that finding the right counsellor for your child is crucial. We can have an initial 15 minute consultation on the phone and go from there. You are very welcome to come to the beginning of the first session, following this, the sessions will tend to be with just the young person but we can stay in contact.
Adults
I work with adults of all ages and from all different walks of life. For each individual, I offer an accepting, calm and confidential space within which to explore their issues, thoughts and feelings. Whether you’re struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, or simply feel lost, I am here to listen and support you in finding your way forward. don’t have to face life’s challenges alone.
I carried out some counselling work through AGE UK which was a huge privilege and provided me with an invaluable amount of learning and experience. The opposite end of the age spectrum to what I had been used to from working predominantly in primary schools, but something I enjoyed immensely.
Can I help you?
The decision to go to counselling is a brave one and finding the right counsellor can feel daunting. I have been through the process myself and know that the relationship you have with your counsellor is crucial to the process. Counselling gave me clarity and enabled me to feel more at peace with life. My goal is to help facilitate this for the people who choose to work with me, however this looks for them.
As a counsellor I am committed to being non-judgemental and open-minded at all times. People come to therapy for lots of different reasons; for some it may be anxiety and stress, depression, grief and loss, relationship and family issues, gender identity, difficulties at work. For others it could be because of a trauma, life changing illness, phobia or obsessions.
Issues I have worked with;
Depression
Anxiety
Grief and loss
Divorce
Abuse
Loneliness
Self-harm
Loss of purpose
Relationship issues
ADHD/Neurodiversity
Sexuality

Bullying
Some people might start therapy because they want to make specific changes and think about the future, for others it might be about making sense of the past.
I offer a free 15 minute telephone consultation, so get in touch. It is important you feel as comfortable as possible with your counsellor and hopefully this call can put you at ease and answer any questions you may have.

Counselling is sometimes known as talking therapy. This is because it gives people the chance to talk about their problems with a trained professional in a safe and confidential environment. The term ‘counselling’ means different things to different people, but at its core, it’s a process that gives us a way to explore our feelings and emotions. By delving deeper into our thought processes, it helps us to understand why we feel, think and act the way we do' and take the last sentence out. As well as how its root cause can direct how we think and act because of it.

The counselling hour is 50 minutes whether face to face or online.
The amount of sessions you have will depend on your individual circumstances. Some people opt for shorter term counselling and others choose to spend longer. You can stop the sessions whenever you want.

I am a registered member of the BACP.
Continuing professional development is very important to me, I very regularly attend workshops, training courses and read A LOT! I’ve always had a ‘life long’ learning approach, way before I qualified as a counsellor. Nobody can ever know everything about anything and always being curious enables the development of knowledge and experience.
